Ozempic Skin: How to Fix Crepey, Sagging Skin After GLP-1 Weight Loss

If you’ve lost significant weight on Ozempic, Wegovy, Mounjaro, or another GLP-1 medication  congratulations. The metabolic results these medications produce are genuinely remarkable. This post explains exactly what is happening in the skin after rapid GLP-1–driven weight loss, and what we can do about it — specifically, how biostimulator treatments (our Bio Curve protocol) and CO2 laser resurfacing address the problem at the biological level and produce results that restore what the weight loss took away.

What “Ozempic Skin” Actually Is

The term “Ozempic skin” refers to the skin quality changes  crepiness, laxity, deflation, and accelerated-aging appearance  that occur after rapid, significant weight loss driven by GLP-1 receptor agonists. It is not a side effect of the medication itself. It is a consequence of what happens to the skin when the fat beneath it disappears faster than the skin can adapt.

To understand why, you need to understand what fat actually does for the skin.

Subcutaneous fat  the fat layer directly beneath the skin  is not just stored energy. It is a structural component of the face and body. It provides volume, support, and the scaffolding that keeps the skin taut and smooth. It also contains its own blood supply, which nourishes the skin above it. When that fat is lost rapidly, the skin loses its internal support structure. It deflates. And because the skin’s collagen and elastin — the proteins that give it firmness and the ability to snap back — have also been degraded by the weight gain that preceded the loss, the skin cannot contract to fit the new, smaller volume beneath it.

The result is skin that looks:

  • Crepey — thin, fine-textured, almost tissue-paper-like, particularly on the arms, abdomen, inner thighs, and neck
  • Loose or sagging — excess skin that hangs or folds in areas where fat has been lost

The faster the weight loss, the more pronounced these changes. GLP-1 medications produce weight loss at a rate the skin’s biology simply cannot keep up with — which is why the aesthetic consequences are often more significant than those seen with slower, diet-and-exercise–driven weight loss.

Why the Skin Can’t Fix This on Its Own

The skin has a remarkable capacity for adaptation  but that capacity has limits, and it declines with age. In a 25-year-old with high collagen density and robust fibroblast activity, moderate weight loss might produce minimal skin laxity. In a 45-year-old whose collagen production has already declined by 30–40% from its peak, the same weight loss can produce significant crepiness and sagging that the skin cannot self-correct.

The core problem is collagen and elastin depletion. These structural proteins are produced by fibroblasts in the dermis  and their production slows with age, with hormonal changes (particularly in perimenopause and menopause), and with the chronic inflammation that accompanies obesity. By the time significant weight loss occurs, the skin’s structural protein reserves are often already depleted. The weight loss removes the fat that was compensating for that depletion  and the underlying deficit becomes visible.

Topical skincare cannot rebuild collagen at the rate or depth needed to address significant skin laxity. Exercise can improve muscle tone beneath the skin but cannot rebuild the dermal collagen matrix. Time alone will not restore what has been lost.

Treatment Option 1: Bio Curve Biostimulator for Body and Face

Biostimulators are injectable treatments that work by triggering the skin’s own collagen and elastin production  not by adding volume directly (as fillers do), but by stimulating the fibroblasts in the dermis to rebuild the structural protein matrix that has been lost.
